Starting with a scenic overland drive to the lakeside city of Pokhara and the Kali Gandaki valley, the 13-day Mohare and Khopra Danda Trek offers a quieter, community-focused alternative to the classic Ghorepani Poon Hill route.

You will trek through the beautiful mid-hills to authentic Magar villages like Nangi and Banskharka before trekking through pristine rhododendron forests, eventually merging with the high alpine ridges of Mohare and Khopra.

This route allows for exceptional cultural immersion as you stay in community-managed eco-lodges, supporting the local school and health projects initiated by the famous Magar communities of the region.

The highlight of this trek is reaching the base of Annapurna South at Khopra Danda (3,660m) for a face-to-face view of Dhaulagiri (8,167m), and the challenging hike to the sacred Khayer Lake (4,660m). From the ridges, you are rewarded with panoramic views of Nuptse, Nilgiri, and the Annapurna range.

Carefully planned with proper acclimatization and shorter walking days, the 13-day itinerary is ideal for trekkers looking for a reliable, crowd-free, and unforgettable Annapurna adventure for 2026/2027.

Why Go on the 13-day Mohare and Khopra Danda Trek in Nepal?

For many hikers, the journey is just as important as the destination. That's exactly what the 13-day Mohare and Khopra Danda Trek offers: a trip into the heart of the Annapurna region that eliminates the stress of overcrowded trails while combining breathtaking diverse landscapes, gradual altitude gain, and genuine cultural immersion.

Here are the top reasons to choose the Mohare and Khopra Danda Trek:

Community-Based Tourism: Unlike the commercialized main trails, this route focuses on "Community Eco-Lodges." Profits from your stay in villages like Nangi and Mohare go directly to funding local schools and internet projects.

Superior Views: While Poon Hill is famous, Mohare Danda (3,300m) and Khopra Danda (3,660m) are higher and offer unobstructed, 360-degree views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna South without the crowds.

Discover Hidden Villages: You will walk through remote, culturally intact villages like Banskharka and Nangi that most tourists never see. This offers a deeper connection to the Magar communities.

Sacred Alpine Lake: The optional hike to Khayer Lake (4,660m) takes you to a sacred Hindu pilgrimage site nestled at the very foot of Annapurna South, offering a spiritual atmosphere rarely found on lower treks.

Diverse Landscapes: The trek takes you through changing terrains, from terraced fields and lush rhododendron forests in the lower hills to the stark alpine wilderness of the high Himalayas.

A Typical Day During the 13-day Mohare and Khopra Danda Trek in Nepal 2026/2027

A typical day on the trek follows a well-paced routine designed for comfort, safety, and proper acclimatization. Your day begins early, around 6:00 to 7:00 AM, to make the most of the clear morning weather.

After waking up in your teahouse or community lodge, you will enjoy a breakfast that you ordered. After breakfast, you set out on the trail with your professional trekking guide. The walk takes you along scenic paths that change from lush forests to rugged mountain terrain.

Around midday, you will stop for lunch at a trailside lodge. Evenings are spent relaxing in the communal dining area, where a warm fire is usually lit. This is a great time to chat with fellow trekkers or play cards. After dinner, your guide will brief you on the next day's route and elevation.

Essential Information

Best Time to Visit

Spring (March to May) is a favorite for nature enthusiasts, as the trails from Nangi to Dobato are ablaze with blooming rhododendrons and magnolias. Autumn (September to November) is widely considered the peak season; following the monsoon, the dust is settled, and the atmosphere is crystal clear, offering the sharpest views . Winter (December to February) can be challenging as snow may block the trail to Khayer Lake.

Trek Difficulty and Physical Fitness

The 13-day journey is graded as a Moderate trek. You will be walking through the rolling hills which involves more "Nepali flats" (ascending and descending repeatedly). You should be prepared to hike for 6 to 7 hours daily on rocky, uneven terrain. The hike to Khayer Lake (4,660m) is the most physically demanding day.

Mountain Accommodation and Lodge Life

During your time in Kathmandu and Pokhara, you will enjoy the comfort of a 3-star hotel with modern amenities. Once on the trail, the accommodation shifts to community lodges and teahouses. These lodges are unique to this region; they are simple but clean, with profits supporting the village. In higher zones like Khopra, facilities are basic with communal dining halls heated by wood stoves .

Food, Nutrition, and Hydration

Our package includes full-board meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) to keep your energy levels consistent. The menus offer traditional Dal Bhat (lentil soup, rice, and vegetable curry) and international favorites. We strongly recommend sticking to vegetarian options to prevent stomach upsets. For hydration, we discourage the use of plastic bottles; instead, bring a reusable bottle and use water purification tablets.

Who Is This Journey Best For?

This 13-day adventure is specifically curated for travelers who want to see the "authentic Nepal" that exists outside the tourist hubs. If you enjoy cultural immersion in quiet villages like Nangi and Swanta, and want to support community-based tourism while seeing massive peaks, this is the package for you. It is suitable for fit beginners and veteran trekkers alike.

Internet, Electricity, and Connectivity

In this region, internet is often available thanks to the "Nepal Wireless" project started in Nangi. Most lodges charge a fee of USD $2 to $5 to charge your phone or camera. We highly recommend bringing a high-capacity power bank to save on costs.

Luggage, Porters, and Packing Ethics

To ensure a comfortable journey, we provide professional porters. Each porter can carry a maximum of 12 to 15 kg per trekker. Your gear should be packed in a durable duffel bag (which we provide). You will be responsible for carrying your own daypack containing your essentials.

Nepal Visa and Entry Requirements

Entering Nepal is a straightforward process. You can obtain a Visa on Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. You will need a passport with at least 6 months of validity and one blank page. The current visa fees are USD $30 for 15 days, $50 for 30 days, or $125 for 90 days. You can also apply online in advance via the official Department of Immigration website.
