Everest base camp with Cho La Pass trekking is a challenging and adventurous trek in Nepal's Everest or Khumbu region. One of the three magnificent and challenging highest passes in the Everest region is the Cho La Pass, while the other two are Renjo La Pass and Kongma La Pass. There are two ways to conquer this pass, either before or after doing the Gokyo Lakes, which means Cho La Pass situates between the Everest base camp and the Gokyo lakes. Compared to crossing the Cho La Pass from the Gokyo Lakes side, the pass is comparatively difficult if crossed from the Everest base camp side. We choose to become different and unique by doing the pass through an unusual way by doing Cho La Pass after completing the Everest base camp journey. In contrast, most people prefer to do the Cho La Pass trek the other way around. The highlights of our trekking journey are the Everest base camp itself, the Gokyo valley with the Gokyo lakes, Lukla, Namche Bazaar and the whole Solukhumbu district.

The Everest base camp trek, combined with one of the three highest passes in the Everest region, is an unbeatable journey that gives extra to every Everest enthusiast. They can see and explore more than what they’ve asked for. Relaxing by the glacier-fed lakes after conquering the dangerous pass can be worthwhile and lasting memories for everyone. Cho La Pass trekking is the finest alternative to the usually famous Everest base camp trekking. Get surrounded by the massive Himalayas and be a part of the ever-welcoming ethnic Sherpa community in Everest land. Walk through the Khumbu icefall, glaciers and moraines and get dumbfounded by nature's creations.

Like in other Everest journeys, you start the Everest Base Camp with Cho La Pass trek by flying to Lukla from Kathmandu first. The sweeping 35 minutes flight will give you a glimpse of the Himalayas before you begin your real journey. After Lukla, the trek will mostly follow the Dudh Koshi river valley upward. Your walk will lead you through the lush vegetation of pine and rhododendron trees, mesmerizing waterfalls, vast lakes and glaciers, holy monasteries, uniquely wonderful Sherpa villages and snow-capped hills and the mountains after all, all through the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park. The protected Everest region boasts many endangered species of floras and faunas, including the Red Panda, Himalayan Thar and Snow Leopard. After successfully climbing the worldwide-popular Everest base camp 5,364 m and the viewpoint Kala Patthar 5,545 m, you will continue to ascend the challenging Cho La Pass and cross the pass to descend into the valley of the highest lakes called Gokyo valley. Returning to Namche Bazaar and Lukla will be the last thing to do unless you wish to continue your trip to other Everest region destinations, such as the Renjo La Pass and Ama Dablam Base Camp, etc.

Cho La Pass trekking is best known for the panoramic views of Mount Everest 8,848 m, Ama Dablam 6,856 m, Kwangde 6,194 m, Kantega 6,809 m, Nuptse 7,879 m, Lhotse 8,511m, Cho Oyu 8,201 m, Makalu 8,463 m and other snow-capped mountains. This trek is suitable only for challenging individuals or groups who would like to take their journey to the next level. It won’t be as easy as you think and not as difficult as you think. It depends on your self-motivation and perseverance to finish the Everest Base Camp with Cho La Pass trek or give up halfway. The altitude will get higher and higher, whereas the air gets thinner and thinner, which means it will test your endurance to the fullest. Don’t stop, and keep going. Spring and Autumn are the best seasons to do the Cho La Pass trekking, but you can also give it a go in Winter and Monsoon seasons despite the cold and the disturbing rain, respectively, in those seasons.

Solo traveling in the Himalayas

We have had many solo travelers in the past. Nepal is totally safe to travel even in the Himalayas, even though you are solo. No matter if you're a solo female or a male traveler, you can hike in the Himalayas doubtlessly, with our experienced guide.

Extra personal expenses during and after trek

The clients are responsible for their own personal expenses during or after the treks like, for buying beverages and snacks, WiFi, doing laundry, buying souvenirs & personal equipment, tips for the field staffs, etc. Therefore, we recommend you to bring some extra cash (in dollars or euro, etc.) of about $300-400, and change it into Nepali Rupees since only NPR are accepted in majority of the Nepali market.

Shower during the trek

It's an important matter to discuss about. After a day's end, you might feel like showering and get fresh. It's a good idea on the lower altitudes but if you're on the higher altitudes (more than 3500m), we recommend to shower on intervals. People seem to catch a cold easily after showering which can lead to altitude sickness. Teahouses in the lower elevation offers you hot shower, but in the upper elevation, a bucket of hot water is provided. They charge a little extra for the hot water bath ($3-5).

Laundry on the trail

There are some teahouses which offer laundry services and you can use their service during the acclimatizing days. However, most of the lodges don't have laundry service and you might have to either wash your clothes yourself or postpone until you arrive in Kathmandu. Please plan in advance about it.

Urgent point to Note

We always suggest you to keep extra one or two days in your trek since we are taking the domestic flights from/to Lukla. The weather in the mountains is unpredictable and can change anytime drastically which means your flight can be delayed or at worst cancelled and postponed for the next day. Therefore, this goes to all the Everest base camp trekkers, that extra days are needed if you wish to take flights from/to Lukla.
